The Seven Sister States are Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura. They are located in Northeast India, an area that is bordered by Burma, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Nepal.

The Northeast region of India is isolated from the rest of the country, but it can be accessed through the Siliguri Corridor. Hot summers and cool winters characterize the area's climate. The region is home to endangered species such as the one-horned rhinoceros and the elephant.

The Seven Sister States have been affected by insurgency and battles between tribes. Due to such security reasons, there are restrictions on foreigners traveling to the region.
