German measles produces a rash that begins as light red or pink spots on the face, spreads down the body, and sometimes expands to create patches of uniform color, explains KidsHealth. The rash continues for up to 72 hours, often with itching and flaking of skin as it disappears.
Known as rubella, the German measles infection may start with a low-grade fever up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and lymph node swelling around the ears and neck about 24 to 48 hours before the rash develops, according to KidsHealth. Although many rubella patients experience minor or no symptoms, others suffer symptoms including lack of appetite, nasal congestion, headaches and eye inflammation.
