Where do Germans put their Easter eggs?
By Forinfos - 09/04/2025 - 0 comments
Rather than hiding Easter eggs, as is the tradition in the United States, Germans traditionally decorate trees and other plants with eggs in a practice known as Ostereierbaum, which translates to "Easter egg tree." Sometimes, these decorations can be quite elaborate, making the trees appear to be heavily fruited with multicolored eggs.
The exact origins of this tradition aren't exactly clear, and they may date back beyond the advent of Christianity in Germany. Germans still enjoy this tradition, and in some places, such as the German town of Saalfeld, there are elaborately decorated individual Ostereierbaum that attract thousands of visitors each year.
