Where do Gila monsters live?

Gila monsters live primarily in Arizona and Mexico. They can also be found in southeastern California, southern Nevada, corners of Utah and parts of New Mexico.

Gila monsters are easily identified because they are black with bright spots of pink, yellow or orange. Gilas are one of the few varieties of venomous lizard in the world. Their venom is a mild neurotoxin.

Gilas are lethargic creatures that spend up to 95 percent of their time in underground burrows and come out only to feed or enjoy the sun. They subsist almost primarily off stolen eggs and newborns of other creatures.
