Is gold magnetic?

Pure gold is not magnetic under normal circumstances, but it might show slight signs of magnetism if it is subjected to an exceptionally strong magnet. Iron, cobalt and nickel are among the few magnetic metals. Gold alloyed with these metals might be somewhat magnetic.

A substance is magnetic because its unpaired electrons line up in a certain way. This causes molecules to line up in rows with their north poles pointing north and their south poles pointing south. The molecules work as a unit and attract other objects to them. Gold, a relatively non-reactive metal, does not react this way in a magnetic field.
