The golden dollar coin is a coin that was produced in 2000 to commemorate the Lewis and Clark expedition. It features Sacagawea, an Indian guide, on the head of the coin.
Sacagawea and her husband, Toussaint Charbonneau, accompanied Lewis and Clark on their expedition in 1804. She gave birth to her son, Jean Baptiste, while on the expedition. Sacagawea's son is shown being carried on her back on the coin.
The back of the coin features a flying eagle surrounded by 17 stars. The stars represent the states of the Union at the time of the expedition. The design of the coin is by a sculptor named Glenna Goodacre.
