A mix of a golden retriever and a German shepherd is called the golden shepherd. These dogs are not purebred. Instead, they are part of the designer dog hybrids.

Golden shepherd dogs live 10 to 13 years on average and grow 20 to 26 inches tall with a weight of 60 to 85 pounds. They are loyal, good-natured and agile dogs with high intelligence. They have soft, wavy coats that need once a week grooming for best results. Golden shepherds are active dogs, requiring daily exercise. They are a recognized hybrid by the American Canine Hybrid Club, the Dog Registry of America and the International Designer Canine Registry.
