Where do goldfish live?

Goldfish are originally from China and possibly nearby countries including Korea and Japan, according to Pawnation. However, because they are widespread pets and sometimes released into the wild, they have been found outside their home range and have even been caught in the United States.

Wild goldfish typically live in quiet, freshwater settings such as backwater pools and streams, especially in environments with plenty of aquatic vegetation, according to the United States Geological Survey. Wild goldfish are tolerant of rougher waters, fluctuations in temperature and even bodies of water with low oxygen. Goldfish have also been found in waters with high levels of salinity.
