What are some good bait choices for catching mice?

Peanut butter, marshmallows, gumdrops, beef jerky and small nuts are among the best baits for mice. Ideal mouse baits are high in protein, fat or sugar. In the fall and winter, dental floss, yarn or twine make good baits for female mice looking for nesting material.

Baits lure a mouse to a trap as well as into the trap itself provided the amounts are very small. The point is to keep the mouse from satisfying its appetite before it enters the trap. Wearing gloves while handling the trap and the baits prevents human scent from clinging to either and repelling mice.
