What is good bait to use for catching shrimp?

Some good examples of bait for catching shrimp include commercial pellets, fishy cat foods, canned oily fishes and fish carcasses. In addition to the actual bait, shrimp catchers often use oils to more quickly spread the scent of the bait through the water.

To use pellets as bait, shrimp catchers first marinate them in water or oil so that they dissolve into an almost oatmeal-like consistency that better attracts the shrimp. When catching shrimp using fish carcasses, they typically avoid using the heads of large lingcod, yelloweye or halibut, since those species of fish can prey on shrimp and may drive the catch away from the trap.
