What is a good blueberry fertilizer?

Blueberries need a fertilizer that is high in acid. Fertilizers that are high in acid contain ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate or sulfur-coated urea. Calcium nitrate- or chloride-containing fertilizers can kill blueberry plants.
Some natural or organic fertilizers that are appropriate for blueberries are blood meal or fish meal mixed with coffee grounds to provide nitrogen and acidity. Bone meal can be mixed with powdered seaweed to give the plants phosphorous and potassium.
Blueberries need to be fertilized once per year, typically in the spring before the leaves start growing. This gives the fertilizer enough time to reach the roots and for the plant to start utilizing the fertilizer for growth.
