What is a good fertilizer for blueberries?

Blueberries benefit from acid fertilizers that contain ammonium sulfate and are formulated for flowers such as azaleas and camellias. While specific formulations vary, many acid fertilizers contain common ingredients, including peat moss, worm castings, gypsum, fir bark and kelp.

Organic fertilizers that contain cottonmeal or bloodmeal are also beneficial for blueberries. Newly-planted blueberries should be fertilized after the plants have acclimated to the soil. The plants should be thoroughly watered following fertilizing and should only be treated once per year following the initial treatment. It is important for gardeners to only use one ounce of fertilizer per treatment to prevent over-fertilization.
