The Good Friday Agreement ended a long raging struggle in Northern Ireland. The British government and Northern Ireland's political parties came to terms and signed the agreement on April 10, 1998.
The Good Friday Agreement outlined specifics of governing within Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom. It also detailed the relations between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Citizens of Northern Ireland voted on the Good Friday Agreement, and the majority of them wished to remain a part of the U.K. The agreement also stated that the majority of citizens from the Republic of Ireland did not wish to remain connected with the U.K.
