Why is it called Good Friday?

The term God's Friday changed over time after its adoption in English to Good Friday. Good Friday, or Holy Friday as it is known in other languages, is the day Jesus Christ was crucified and died according to Christian belief.

Christians believe that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross freed his followers and their descendants from the grip of sin. This makes the tragedy of his death a good deed for mankind and gives the day a holy significance. Good Friday is celebrated in remembrance of that sacrifice. According to the Bible, Christ was falsely tried and convicted of treason against the Roman Empire. He was crucified and died on a Friday, after which his body was removed from the cross and laid to rest in a tomb with a large stone blocking the entrance. When his followers returned to the tomb on Sunday to attend the body, Christ was no longer in the tomb. He had risen, wiping clean the sins of man.
