What are some good places to find cheap second-hand furniture?

Estate sales, yard sales, flea markets, salvage stores and thrift stores are all potential sources of inexpensive used furniture. Other sources include Craigslist, relatives and friends, and even curbside finds from college move-out days or community large-item pick-up days.

Although prices for used furniture are often a fraction of what the same goods cost when new, smart shoppers set a budget for purchase and delivery before shopping and check carefully for quality of construction and acceptable levels of wear and tear before buying. Items to take a pass on include pieces with stapled-together wooden frames, mattresses, lamps that don't work properly when plugged in and cribs.
