What is a good sculpting clay recipe?

One very simple sculpting clay recipe only calls for two cups of baking soda, two cups of cornstarch, a cup and a half of cold water and any food coloring you would like to use to dye the clay. The recipe also requires a medium-sized saucepan, a heat source like a stove top and a damp towel.

To make the sculpting clay, first combine the baking soda and the cornstarch in the saucepan. Place the saucepan on the stove, and turn it to medium heat, then slowly add the cold water to the mixture. Stir the mixture throughout this process, which should take about ten minutes. Once the mixture has a consistency similar to mashed potatoes, turn off the stove, and dump the mixture onto the counter top.

Next, cover the mixture with the damp towel, and let it sit until it is cool enough to kneed. Kneed the clay to the desired consistency, then add in whatever dyes you picked out. Kneed the clay again until the dye is evenly distributed through the clay. Once it is finished, sculpt the clay, and bake it in an oven to harden it. Because the ingredients are non-toxic, this sculpting clay can also be used by children.
