How do you correctly dial an international phone number?

Dialing an international telephone number begins with the prefix 011. The country code then is inputted followed by the local telephone number. Callers of one telephone provider who wish to use a different long-distance carrier for the call will need an access code before the prefix.
Examples of international country codes include 33 for France, 44 for the United Kingdom, 49 for Germany, 52 for Mexico and 61 for Australia. Canada and the Caribbean countries use the same area code system as the United States, so only a "1" prior to the area code is needed. Charges for international calls vary by telephone provider.
