Who was the first president of Mexico?

Guadalupe Victoria was the first president of Mexico. He was named the first president by Congress in October 1824. During his time as the president of Mexico, Victoria established alliances with Central America, England and the United States.

Victoria's most significant accomplishment was establishing Mexico's independence. He established a navy in 1825 and freed the country from the last of the Spaniards. He is also known for defending freedom of speech, abolishing slavery and encouraging religious tolerance within Mexico.

Victoria served as Mexico's president until 1829 when he was succeeded by Vicente Guerrero. After his retirement, Victoria resided at his home in Veracruz, where he died in 1843.
