Who are Lal, Bal and Pal?

Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal were an extremist group in British-ruled India in the 20th century. Better known as Lal, Bal and Pal, they helped change the political discourse of the Independence movement in India.

In 1905, Lal, Bal and Pal advocated the Swadeshi movement, an economic strategy focused on overthrowing the British Empire. They also encouraged various boycotts throughout India, including the boycott of all imported items in 1907 during the anti-Partition agitation in Bengal. In 1918, Lal and Bal were deported to Manadalay in Burma. With their arrests, Pal went into retirement and the nationalist movement faded.
