The military diet is in reference to a strict diet plan in which food choices cannot be substituted and the caloric intake ranges from 800 to 1,100 calories per day for three days. On the fourth day, the diet allows for a balanced diet of 1,500 calories.
This diet, derived from the U.S. Army, is used by soldiers for their first weigh-ins and to get in better shape. The restricted calories force the body to increase metabolism and burn more fat. The diet also lays out a strict menu for the three days. The known downside to this diet is the hunger created from lack of caloric intake.
