What is a sheriff log?

According to Calveras County's sheriff's logs, these documents are daily records kept by a county sheriff's office of disturbances, police reports, and other reported criminal activity, and a booking log of people brought into the county jail.

A sheriff's log is public information and contains detailed descriptions of both the reported criminal activities and those booked into the jail. All events are time-stamped, include location, and whether the officer filed a report or not. The records of those arrested include their full names; personal information, such as address and date of birth; reason for the arrest; date and time; and whether they were released or not.
