Each medical school has its own minimum GPA requirements for acceptance. Applicants typically must submit one GPA for their math and sciences courses, one for their non-science coursework and an aggregate GPA for all classes.
According to the American Association of Medical Colleges, as of 2013, the average GPA of medical school applicants was 3.54, while the average GPA of students accepted into medical school that same year was 3.69. The association’s data also shows that 48,014 students applied to medical schools in 2013 but only 20,055 were accepted. Most medical schools in the United States require applicants to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) in addition to submitting their GPA.
