Graphene is a sheet of carbon that is only one atom thick. The carbon atoms are bonded together in a repeating hexagonal pattern. Graphene rolled into a cylinder is called a carbon nanotube.
Graphene is the strongest material in the world. It is also the best known conductor of electricity, the best known thermal conductor and the least permeable substance humans have discovered. It is also flexible enough to be twisted and stretched.
Graphene's various properties make it an ideal candidate for many industrial applications such as water desalination, solar cell construction and electronic engineering. It is also a strong, lightweight building material.
