Where do great horned owls live?

According to National Geographic, great horned owls live in most parts of North and South America. They are found in several habitats, including suburban areas, forests and farmlands.

Great horned owls choose from a variety of locations to make their nests, such as tree holes, stumps, caves and large abandoned nests. Typically, these owls lay two eggs at a time. Both parents take turns sitting on the eggs, and the father is responsible for obtaining food. Though great horned owls generally weigh 2 to 5 pounds, they often prey on large animals, such as skunks, raccoons, rabbits and even dogs. The birds maintain an advantage by attacking from the air with their sharp talons.
