The words "Grindley England" on pottery or china indicate that the pieces come from W H Grindley in the United Kingdom. The company began in 1880, founded by William Harry Grindley, and is best known for the vivid, flowing blue in its designs.
The company operated as W H Grindley until 1978, when it became known as Grindley on Stokes. It was bought out by another company in 1982, and the family bought the company back six years later. Grindley ran into financial trouble shortly afterwards, and in 1991 it was bought out of receivership by Woodlands Pottery, which operates the brand as of 2014.
