Do groundhogs bite?
By Forinfos - 01/04/2026 - 0 comments
Like most animals, if a groundhog feels trapped or threatened or is a female defending her babies, it will bite. Groundhogs may bite people or pets.
Groundhogs are the largest members of the squirrel family. They eat a lot of food during the summer to stock up on fat reserves they use for hibernating, something that generally happens from October through March.
Groundhogs are often a nuisance for many gardeners because of their insatiable appetites and the fact that they can easily destroy a garden during the summer months. Groundhogs will avoid confrontation when possible, but as mentioned earlier, they will bite when threatened.
