How do you grow kiwi?

Grow kiwi by removing the seeds from the fruit, preparing them for planting, starting the seeds in a tray, transplanting the seedlings to a sunny area, watering the vines regularly and feeding the seedlings. You need a kiwi, a plastic bag, perlite, seed trays, mulch and fertilizer.

1. Remove the seeds

   Cut a kiwi in half, and scoop out the pulp. Place the fruit in a strainer, and wash away the pulp to separate out the seeds.

2. Prepare the seeds

   Clean the seeds of any remaining pulp, and place them on a paper towel. Allow them to completely dry for a couple of days before placing them in a bag of perlite. Refrigerate the bag for four months, misting the perlite and seeds regularly to keep them moist.

3. Start the seeds indoors

   Fill a seed tray with potting mix. Place the seeds on top of the soil, and cover them with a thin layer of potting mix.

4. Keep the seeds humid

   Spray the potting mix and seeds with water. Put the plastic cover on the trays to increase the humidity. Keep the soil moist.

5. Place the trays in a sunny location

   Once the seeds sprout, remove the cover. Place the tray in a sunny location. Thin the seedlings as needed.

6. Choose an outdoor location

   Choose a sunny outdoor location in which to transplant the seedlings that is near a trellis or wall for the growing vines. The soil needs to be well-drained. Improve drainage by mixing a thick layer of compost into the soil.

7. Transplant the seedlings

   Plant the seedlings in the chosen location.

8. Feed and water the plants

   Give the plants between 1 and 2 inches of water, keeping the soil moist throughout the growing season. Mulch the plants with 4 inches of seed-free straw. Every year, fertilize the plants with 10-10-10 fertilizer.
