How do you grow peppers?

Grow peppers by starting the seeds early, choosing a sunny location, preparing the soil, transplanting the pepper plants, mulching the plants, watering the plants and fertilizing the plants when necessary. You need pepper seeds, potting soil, pots, a trowel, compost, mulch, fertilizer and match sticks.
- Start the seeds early
Because bell peppers are warm weather plants, start the seeds indoors as early as 10 weeks before the last frost to get a head start. Place the seeds in a pot with potting soil, and water them regularly.
- Choose a good location
Choose a good permanent location for the seedlings where they can have full sun exposure. The site needs to have loamy, well-drained soil.
- Prepare the soil
Mix a thick layer of compost into the top several inches of soil. Wait a week before planting the seedlings in the prepared soil.
- Transplant the peppers
Dig a hole, and place a seedling in it along with 1 teaspoon of fertilizer and three matchsticks, which encourages growth.
- Mulch the plants
Spread a layer of mulch around the plants to keep the soil moist.
- Water the plants
Give the plants 1 to 2 inches of water per week.
- Fertilize the plants
Fertilize the plants after they begin to grow fruit.
