To grow a pineapple plant from a pineapple top, use the following steps.
- Remove the top from a pineapple
- Let the stalk dry out
- Trim the stalk
- Plant the stalk
- Water the pot
- Fertilize the soil
- Move the plant indoors
Cut or snap off the top of a pineapple fruit.
Leave the leafy stalk to dry slightly in a shady spot. Let it dry for 1 or 2 days.
Remove the leaves around the bottom of the stalk. This offers some space for roots to sprout.
Choose a pot that offers plenty of drainage and fill it with clean soil. Plant the stalk in the soil.
Water the pot with the pineapple stalk around once per week. The soil should offer moisture, but should not be soggy, as too much moisture can make the stalk rot. It may take several months for roots to develop on the stalk.
Add some fertilizer to the soil every few months to provide the new plant with nutrients.
Pineapple plants require warm temperatures to thrive. When the weather gets colder, move the pot indoors. To avoid shock, move the plant into the shade for a few days before taking it inside.
