The Tulip tree has a fast growth rate, meaning it grows 25 inches or more per year. The Tulip tree reaches maturity at 70 to 90 feet high.
Also known as the Yellow Poplar, the Tulip tree has bright green leaves that resemble tulip flowers and turn golden yellow in fall. The tree sprouts greenish-yellow flowers on the higher branches, making it popular as an ornamental tree for landscaping. The tree does best in full sun, but can flourish in moist, sandy, well-drained or clay soils. The tree's spread reaches about 40 feet at maturity, and it maintains a rounded oval shape.
