What is Guardians of the Galaxy?

Guardians of the Galaxy is a spacefaring superhero team featured in comic books by Marvel Comics. The first Guardians of the Galaxy characters appear in Marvel Super-Heroes #18, published in January 1969. The 2008 modern version of the team is introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 #1.

The 2014 box-office hit "Guardians of the Galaxy," which was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios is based on the adventures of the 2008 comic book team formed by Star-Lord, an interplanetary policeman, to fight galactic-level threats. Original 1969 Guardians of the Galaxy team members include Martinex T'Naga, a being from Pluto, and Captain Charlie-27, a soldier from Jupiter.
