When was the Gulf War?

The first Gulf War officially started when Saddam Hussein's Iraq military invaded Kuwait in August of 1990. When Iraq refused to withdraw at the start of the next year, the United States sent troops into the region in January of 1991.

The most prominent feature of the war was Operation Desert Storm, a 100-hour land incursion by the United States military. The overwhelming force that the US sent up against the Iraqi armed forces led to the Gulf War lasting just 42 days. On Feb. 28, 1991, the United States declared there was an agreement for a cease fire and that Iraq had agreed to pull its troops out of Kuwait.
