The Gulf War, which is short for the Persian Gulf War, was won by the Kuwait and Allied countries coalition. Despite winning the war, Kuwait was left with heavy damage.
The Gulf War began on Nov. 29, 1990 as a response to a sudden invasion of Kuwait by Iraqi forces. Nearby neighbors of Kuwait, such as Egypt, requested support from the prominent countries of the United Nations. The United States was the first country to respond and had heavy involvement during the war. Other countries, such as the United Kingdom, Canada and France, also supported Kuwait. The war ended early in 1991 as the Iraqi forces continued to sustain high levels of casualties.
