How do hair thickening products work?

Hair thickening products work by temporarily plumping up single strands of hair by adding some product particles to it. The result is hardly noticeable on the single hair, but the overall effect makes the hair look a bit thicker. Thickening products include shampoos and conditioners marketed under various names.

Volumizing, plumping and thickening in the product name or description all mean the same thing. As the products leave deposits on the hair, they are not suitable for daily use due to the build-up over time that dulls and weighs down the hair. Thickening products cannot permanently thicken or regrow hair.
