What do hamsters like to eat?

Hamsters like to eat grains, seeds, fruits and vegetables. Hamsters should be fed a commercial hamster food, which may consist of pellets or seed mixes.
When eating seed mixes, hamsters often pick out only certain preferred foods and won't eat the rest, resulting in an unbalanced diet. Pellet diets can, however, become monotonous, which can cause some hamsters to stop eating them.
Commercial hamster diets can be supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables. They can also be fed hay, bread, cooked brown rice, peanuts, pumpkin seeds and popcorn. Most hamsters also enjoy small amounts of peanut butter. Hamsters should not be fed almonds, citrus fruits or raw potatoes.
