Lost, stolen or damaged SSN cards can be replaced by requesting a replacement at the citizen's local Social Security office. The SSA limits a person to three replacements a year and 10 during a person's lifetime.
A person who has forgotten his Social Security number or has failed to present a SSN card may not be able to perform most financial transactions, file for income tax returns, obtain employment records or acquire Medicare benefits. The Internal Service Revenue requires taxpayers to include their SSN on any related tax forms, enabling a taxpayer to retrieve his SSN by locating previously filed tax forms, such as ITR, 1099 or W2.
