According to the Canada Border Services Agency, anyone found to be living in Canada illegally will first be issued a removal order and then deported from the country. If an individual appeals a removal order, the deportation cannot take place until the appeal has been decided.
The Toronto Sun reports that there are between 35,000 and 120,000 illegal immigrants in Canada as of May 2013, approximately 40,000 of which the auditor general has lost track of. Canada's illegal immigration policy is relatively lax compared to the policies of other first world nations. Prior to the 1947 Citizenship Act, there was no such thing as a legal or illegal Canadian citizen.
