How hard is hard rock maple furniture?

Hard rock maple furniture can withstand 1,450 pounds of force on the Janka hardness scale. This means it takes this much force to embed half of a small steel ball into the wood.
The Janka scale indicates that rock maple, also known as sugar maple or hard maple, is fairly hard though it is not close to being the hardest wood. It is often pale with a straight grain. Rock maple is typically used in butcher blocks, chopping boards, sports equipment, musical instruments and kitchen counters. It is also used in hardwood flooring, particularly for bowling alleys and basketball courts.
