What is the Harvard mascot?

The official mascot for Harvard University is John Harvard. The school does not have a mascot that is a regular part of their athletic program like most other universities.

The sports teams at Harvard University are referred to as the "Crimson." The mascot has little to do with this nickname, since John Harvard is a historical, and the school's, benefactor. While a statue of John Harvard is located on campus, the mascot is not used during the university's sporting events like a traditional mascot. The statue of John Harvard was erected in 1884 but does not resemble John Harvard at all as it was modeled after a student at the time.
