Are there any over-the-counter medications that help treat swollen glands?

To treat swollen glands, a patient can use over the counter pain relievers, including Tylenol, Aleve, Advil or Motrin, according to WebMD. Also, it is recommended to use a warm, wet rag on the affected area and to get plenty of rest.
Sometimes swollen glands can be the sign of a larger issue, says WebMD. A person should get medical attention if the swollen glands are accompanied by a high fever, shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, weight loss or night sweats. Also, if after taking medication, the swollen glands have not gone away after one month, become larger than one inch, or become tender or hard, a doctor should be notified.
