Is there medication to help a swollen tongue?

There are several medications available to treat a swollen tongue, according to Everyday Health. Depending on the cause of the swelling, the symptoms can be treated with an epinephrine injection or with antihistamines or corticosteroids.
Epinephrine is the best choice for tongue swelling caused by an allergic reaction. Doctors may prescribe an over-the-counter solution to help temporarily reduce the pain and inflammation for less severe instances of tongue swelling, as stated on Healthline.
Severe swelling of the tongue that blocks the airway is a medical emergency, warns Everyday Health. If this occurs, the patient should seek emergency medical attention immediately.
