Heather Tesch is a wife and mother as of 2015. She was laid off from The Weather Channel in 2012 after 14 years of work as a meteorologist, after which she began writing a column for "The Orange County Post -Sentinel."

Heather used the publicity from her success as a news broadcaster to bring attention to animal welfare. On her own time, she produced extra news segments for The Weather Channel and weather.com about homeless animals and pet adoption. Additionally, she personally fostered kittens left homeless after a tornado in Ringgold, Georgia, one of which still lives with her as of 2015. She currently owns five cats and a lizard.
