Is helium bad for the human body?

Helium is not bad for the body if it is ingested or inhaled in small doses. Helium is a colorless, odorless and inert gas that has no biological function in the body.

If helium is inhaled in large quantities, it can suffocate the person who inhales it. Death from inhaling helium is uncommon, but it has occurred.

Helium is the second-most abundant element and the second-lightest element after hydrogen. For a time scientists believed it was present on the sun but not on the Earth. It was therefore named helium after "helios," the Greek word for sun. Helium is one of the noble gases.
