The liver in the human body is located in the upper right portion of the abdominal cavity, under the diaphragm and beside the stomach. The liver is made up of four lobes and receives approximately 1.5 quarts of blood per minute from the hepatic artery and portal vein.
The liver is the largest glandular organ in the human body. Its primary function is to rid the body of any harmful substances or toxins. It secretes bile, which is a substance required to digest fats in the body. The liver also plays a vital role in maintaining metabolism, detoxifying blood and breaking down hemoglobin. A human cannot survive without a healthy liver.
