The state of North Carolina is located in the Northern Hemisphere (on the North American continent). This simply means it is located north of the equator.
The Earth's equator is an imaginary line on the Earth's surface, equidistant from the North Pole and South Pole, that divides the Earth into the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. The latitude of the Equator is by definition 0° (zero degrees). North Carolina is located at latitude 35° N, placing it firmly in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to its central location between the Equator and the North Pole, North Carolina's climate is relatively mild.
