The Eiffel Tower is 986 feet tall and opened in 1889. It was the world's tallest structure until it was surpassed by the Chrysler Building in 1930. The Eiffel Tower has 1,710 steps.
The Eiffel Tower was constructed to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the beginning of the French Revolution. The Eiffel Tower was once used as the world's largest billboard when the French auto company Citroen had its name emblazoned on the tower in 100-foot vertical letters with a quarter-million colored bulbs between 1925 and 1936. The advertisement was so bright that it could be seen for almost 20 miles, and Charles Lindbergh utilized it to help him land in Paris in 1927.
