The Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet tall. It stands as France's symbol in the world and the showcase of Paris. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.
The Eiffel Tower stood as the tallest building in the world for 41 years. It was usurped by the Chrysler Building in New York City in 1930. The ground, first and second levels of the tower are open to the public. The first and second levels can be reached by stairs or lift. The climb between the ground and first levels is 300 steps as is the walk between the first and second levels.
