What is the highest credit score?

The highest possible FICO credit score tops out at 850, according to ABC News. However, a person who reaches a credit score of 850 does not necessarily acquire any more benefits than a person who has a credit score of 800.

Credit card issuers offer little, if any, variation between the interest rates and credit terms of someone with a credit score of 850 and someone with a score of 800, explains ABC News. In fact, those who want to raise their already-high credit score of 800 can potentially lower their score if not careful. Actions such as keeping zero debt or shedding credit cards, which most believe to help their credit score, can actually hurt a person's credit score.
