Mount Godwin-Austen, most commonly known as K2, was once believed to be the highest mountain in the world before Mount Everest was discovered. K2 is located between the borders of China and Pakistan and is considered to be far more dangerous to climb than Mount Everest.
Reaching an estimated 8,611 meters in height, Mount Godwin-Austen is responsible for claiming the lives of every one out of four people to who attempt to reach its summit. This particular mountain holds the third-highest mortality rate when compared to all other known mountains. Mount Godwin-Austen is part of the Batura and Karakoram mountain ranges.
