The highest mountain in the United States is Mount McKinley in Alaska. The mountain is also known as Denali, and its peak is 20,320 feet above sea level. It's roughly 2,000 feet higher than the second largest mountain, Mount Saint Elias, which is also located in Alaska.
Mount McKinley is a part of Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska. It is the highest peak in North America and the third highest in the world, behind only Mount Everest of the Himalayas in Asia and Aconcagua of the Andes in South America. It was named in 1896 after William McKinley, who at the time was a Presidential candidate and was then elected to the Presidency the following year.
